Launched in April 2023, the research project “Cybersecurity Meets Culture” aims to explore how cultural factors influence cybersecurity and how these elements can be integrated into cybersecurity practices. The project team has been conducting interviews with cybersecurity educators, specialists, students, and CTOs in Switzerland and Cameroon.

While much of the collaboration has taken place online, the team recently gathered in person on BUIB’s campus to conduct interviews in Cameroon. This face-to-face meeting not only advanced the project and strengthened the team’s collaboration, but it also opened new avenues for synergies in education and research.

Preliminary interviews have already revealed a diverse range of cultural factors influencing human behaviour in cybersecurity, such as an individual’s background, upbringing, trust, and religion. However, with the next series of interviews already planned, there is still much more to uncover.
