Lagerfeuer Wissenschaft -Whistleblowing

15. September 2023

In Switzerland, whistleblowers are relatively poorly protected compared to other countries. Reporting misconduct often exposes whistleblowers to the risk of termination, legal charges, or discredit. The research team led by Prof. Dr. Petra Asprion and Frank Grimberg at the University of Economics has been working on the development of a tool to protect whistleblowers. As part of the project, a blockchain-based solution has been developed, allowing whistleblowers to anonymously report misconduct, facilitating the discovery of solutions within a company that can be beneficial to all parties involved.

Episode 1

In the first episode, two well-known whistleblowing cases that created significant controversy in Switzerland are discussed, along with a general exploration of the whistleblowing topic. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Petra Asprion and Frank Grimberg provide a more detailed introduction to their project and discuss the potential changes it could bring about.

Episode 2

In the second episode the topic of whistleblowing and the research conducted by Prof. Dr. Petra Asprion and Frank Grimberg is further discussed, building on the theme of denunciation from the first episode. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Petra Asprion and Frank Grimberg explain what a secure and productive whistleblowing process looks like. The podcast also explores whether whistleblowers are considered heroes or traitors and invite you to share your thoughts on the matter. Furthermore, we will discuss how this polarization comes about in the first place.
