Quantum Computing Circle Kicks-Off: An Introduction for Business Students
Today, we kicked off our Quantum Computing Circle in partnership with Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) and the School of Life Sciences Muttenz. This collaborative effort aims to introduce business students to the fundamentals of quantum computing.
Prof. Dr. Bettina Schneider opened the session by welcoming students in Basel and Stuggart. She then took them through an introduction to the course and provided some key facts about the FHNW. Prof Dr. Carmen Winter at DHBW also welcomed the students and shared some information about her university and its related quantum computing competencies.
During the introductory session led by Bernd Hänsch-Rosenberger and Prof. Dr Gerhard Hellstern, students explored key aspects of quantum computing. Topics included an examination of the significant financial investments in quantum computing research by various countries, a technical overview of quantum computing, and discussions on the philosophical remarks related to the topic. Additionally, students learned about optimisation in quantum computing.
The second session is scheduled for April 29th, 2024, at the School of Life Sciences, led by Prof. Dr Clément Javerzac. During this session, students will engage in a practical experiment, programming their first quantum computer.
In the final session, students will discuss the outlook of quantum computing. This reflective discussion will provide valuable insights into the potential impact of quantum computing, fostering critical thinking and setting the stage for further exploration into the topic.
